There is something in my heart that warms with every opening of the Olympic Games. And last night’s ceremonies were no exception. So I must now ask you to forgive me for waxing idealistic for a moment… I appreciate the solidarity. The overall awareness of the essential brotherhood and sisterhood of humankind, in general. The sportsmanship of which we are capable when camaraderie, determination, and hope rule the day. In an idealistic sense, quite an uplifting thing.

With the competition now underway, talk of gold, silver, and bronze seems to be abuzz everywhere. Who’s likely to set what new record and who could possibly beat out so-and-so in this or that event. And it really is contagious. Makes one quite proud to watch these stellar representatives from among our nation’s best athletes do their stuff. Pretty darn thrilling.

Thoughts like these were running through my head this morning as I looked back over my audition history from recent months. It’s actually been pretty sparse – only four auditions, total – as we’ve been traveling and (though the really nifty SmartCast system at Voice123 keeps sending me dozens of interesting audition opportunities) I’ve simply not had much time at the mic in order to record auditions and submit proposals. So, out of four relatively recent auditions, I received two very fun rankings among various feedback from the voice seekers.

First, for a video game spot, voicing the role of a robotic-type voice, I received a ranking of 3rd…out of 92 auditions that received feedback! I was jumping up and down when I heard back about that one. Seriously. 3rd out of 92?!? YES!! (I know it really doesn’t sound like that big of a deal, but it’s very encouraging for me, as I’m really still cutting my teeth, so to speak, in the video game side of the professional VO world!) The project audition deadline closed a few days ago, and my ranking hasn’t changed, so I’m definitely not holding my breath at this point. But it was a great ranking to have received, anyway, and a very BIG encouragement.

Second, for a project voicing the characters and narration for a new preschool level, educational iPad game app, I’ve received a ranking of 1st out of all the auditions that have received feedback so far! The voice seeker for this one isn’t looking for as many auditions as the seeker for the one I previously mentioned – which makes it all at once both more and less intimidating an audition! – but it sounds like a great project, regardless, and I have to say that I’m feeling pretty good about being ranked 1st. 😉

We shall see what comes of it.

It’s all been a pretty big vote of confidence, regardless of the outcome…

So, in the spirit of the Games…

…I hope you are all experiencing a very happy and triumphant summer so far!

And thanks, as always, for stopping in and reading.
